Golf Club Fitting

Club Fitting Page:

Early in his career, over 20 years ago, Brady was blown away at the dramatic improvement in performance after his first club fitting experience.   His natural curiosity about how changes in equipment can help players swing and play better eventually led him into the world of golf shafts.  Working for golf shaft distribution company, Swing Science, Brady met and counseled many of the industry’s best fitters until one of his accounts lured him away to build and lead their club fitting program.  This program became the best in the DFW Metroplex and one of the best in the country earningdistinction by Golf Digest as one of America’s Top 100 and by Golf Magazine as one of North America’s 50 Best Clubfitters.  Brady’s knowledge of golf equipment and its impact on how golfers perform is hard to match.

Indoor vs Outdoor: The Best of Both Worlds

At The Highlands Performance Golf Center Brady can fit both indoors and outdoors

Indoor Fitting

  • All tools/club components at arm’s reach
  • No wind or weather concerns
  • Can utilize premium golf balls – the type the players uses when they play

Outdoor Fitting

  • Hit balls from grass
  • See true flight of the golf ball
  • More similar to how we actually play golf

Most fitting facilities are limited to either indoor or outdoor fitting.  Brady can utilize both environments to deliver a world-class fitting experience.  Starting indoors, he has easy access to all of his tools and club components.  But more importantly, indoors we will utilize a premium quality golf ball, a brand and model that the player actually plays with to get the most accurate ball flight metrics.  Another advantage of fitting inside is that the ball flight metrics aren’t influenced by environmental conditions like wind that alter the true data.  We get very clean data as if in a laboratory.  Once we arrive at the final 2 choices, we go outside to let the player see ball flight and experience how the clubs feel when hitting from natural turf.

Iron Fitting: This 90-minute process begins with determining length of club and lie angle.  From there we move to determining golf shaft type (steel or graphite), weight, flex and profile.  Once the golf shaft is chosen, we move on to club head, starting with type (Blade, Player Cavity Back, Player Distance Iron, Game Improvement or Super Game Improvement) with the last choice being brand/specific model.

Driver Fitting: During this 60-minute process players will learn what length of driver they make the best contact with and what weight shaft they can swing the fastest.  Once weight and length are determined we move to club head, finding loft and head type.  Once we are dialed in with shaft and head type we finalize the process selecting the specific brand.

Putter Fitting:  Most players will use their putter for around 40% (most of any club) of their strokes when playing golf, yet the putter is the least fit club in the bag.  Putter fitting starts with finding the best length of club and the corresponding lie angle.  We use these factors to help promote a consistent set-up.  Once that is achieved, we move on to head type – blade or mallet.  Using Capto 3D technology we then measure face rotation and select the putter the player can return the most “square”

Wedge Fitting:  Brady is a strong believer in fitting wedges exclusively outdoors.  This process starts with determining brand – as we start with determining a players preference for feel.  Once we find brand/feel we move on to gapping – blending the lofts of the wedges to seamlessly transition from the iron set.  Once we dial in feel and loft, we fine tune by selecting the bounce of the wedges to benefit wedge play around the greens.

Ball Fitting:  Right behind putter fitting, golf ball fitting is another under utilized service.  The ball is only piece of equipment used for every shot.  While golf balls are similar, there are performance variables to pay attention to and match to a players skill set.  Utilizing Ballnamicsoftware a ball fitting involves measuring how your current gamer golf ball performs and then comparing that to how you want it to perform.  We can raise or lower the spin rate off of irons, the driver and with wedges around the green all by changing the ball that you play.  Watch Brady talk about the Ball Fitting Process here
